Roberto Jordao knew exactly what mastering engineers needed and had no way to build it. Edge Audio Labs built the whole product: on-device AI stem separation, licensing and a web platform.

- Problem: a seasoned mastering producer had a strong plugin idea and no idea how to build it.
- What we built: the full product. AI stem separation running on-device, plus user accounts, licensing and a web platform.
- Result: Pulse AB, Wavedance's mastering plugin, live at wavedance.io: reference any track down to its stems, with no subscription.
The Pain
Pulse AB came to Edge Audio Labs from Wavedance, run by a producer who knew exactly what mastering engineers needed and had no way to build it: an idea, not a spec. The tools that existed didn't help much either.
- No team, no architecture. Deep domain knowledge and nowhere to start.
- References you can't take apart. Existing tools compared full tracks, never the drums or the vocal on their own.
- The few that could, charged rent. Stem separation meant a subscription and sending your audio to someone else's server.
What We Did
One decision shaped the whole product.
- Run the separation on the user's machine. A server would have been easier to build and would have forced Wavedance into a subscription to cover the cost. Edge Audio Labs integrated the model in-house and made it run on the CPU, so the plugin can be sold outright and nothing leaves the engineer's studio.
- Build the business around that choice. The analyzer, the store and the licensing all followed from it.
What We Built
- AI stem separation. A model integrated in-house, running on-device: isolate a reference's drums, bass or vocals with no subscription and nothing sent to a server.
- Real-time A/B reference. Your master and any reference on one live analyzer, reading the exact gap at any frequency. The heart of the mastering workflow.
- Runs in every DAW. Native across VST3, AU and AAX, on macOS and Windows.
- Web platform and accounts. Edge Audio Labs built the Shopify store and user-account system around the plugin.
- Licensing system. End-to-end license management and software protection, from web checkout to token verification inside the plugin.

Your master and any reference on one live analyzer, reading the exact gap at any frequency, and the reference broken into drums, bass or vocals, on your own machine.
Where It Got Hard
On screen, not in the model.
Drawing a live FFT of a master and a reference at once, smooth, while the audio thread runs underneath, is what the project came down to. A lock-free FIFO keeps the analyzer fed without ever blocking audio.
